Dear diary - today I shaved one leg with a razor and shaving gel, but I used Nair on the other leg to see *WHAT* I might discover in the next few days in the unending debate over razors vs. depilatories! The suspense is killing me! It was the best day ever.

In other news, I've re-watched Dexter to show it to my friend Charise, and I discovered the tiniest little joke this time around which sent me into a giggle fit. This would only be considered a spoiler by those for whom anything and everything ever about anything in a show is a spoiler,

Dexter has to be registered in a specific national database in order to get a chemical he needs. He used an alias to register. We see it, very briefly, on a computer screen. It's Patrick Bateman - the protagonist in American Psycho. AWESOME IN SO MANY WAYS.

I love Dexter.

Man, they really need to hurry up and start showing Dexter down here. I've only seen the first ep, courtesy of a friend, and my internets are way too slow for downloadination. :(

Yesss! I practically cheered when it came up. Patrick Bateman is one of my favorite crazy guys in fiction. I thought the film was hilariously funny and brilliant (and I know that me, my sister, and my cousin made the ENTIRE rest of the theater really uncomfortable by laughing throughout the movie while they mostly sat in silence).

I seriously need to make myself some Dexter icons...

American Psycho is one of the best comedies ever. I can almost always gauge if someone has a sense of humor that gibes with mine when I ask them what they thought of American Psycho. GOOD CHRIST that movie is hilarious.

And I need Dexter icons too. And perhaps an American Psycho one as well....

I was highly anticipating American Psycho before it came out. I've been a fan of Mary Harron ever since I saw the AMAZING Lili Taylor (she's sooooo amazing and unconventionally beautiful) in I Shot Andy Warhol and Christian Bale was on my must-watch list after seeing him in Velvet Goldmine (which is so underrated, it makes me cry). I read the book before the film and I loved the books irreverence. To see it on screen executed so well was delightful. And it was so funny.

I read so many "OMG, this film is so misogynistic!" essays when the film came out and part of me felt like too many folks didn't get the joke, you know? The screenplay was adapted by two women; one of them, Guinevere Turner, is a very out lesbian. The character is a misogynistic bastard, the film is told from his perspective, but the film also makes clear that he's an extremely unreliable narrator and it mocks him and his attitude and the attitudes of the people around him in their shallow world.
