The only thing I dislike more than having to write a paper about how detrimental the No Child Left Behind Act has been, in *three pages or fewer*, is the No Child Left Behind Act itself.

Okay, and civil war.

And haggis.

But mostly NCLB.

(One day when I have a few minutes I will make several grad-school themed icons. I forsee that many will be inclined toward the negative emotions.)

If you write my paper for me, you can have all my apportioned haggis from now until the end of time.

*g* I'm so far out of the academic loop, you really wouldn't want me to try it. Believe me, you may hate doing it more than I would, but you'll write a much better paper than I would.

I'll take the haggis, though.

I think I'd take haggis over NCLB. Seriously. My job was *ridiculously* simpler before NCLB and it was NEVER simple.

Unfunded Mandate should be a 4-letter-word.

I need to find peer-reviewed journal articles showing how NCLB is ruining schools and the education process, but of course what's mostly published is how *great* it all is. You'd think JSTOR and ERIC would have some stuff to back me up!

meh.

I think your problem there is that those of us 'in the trenches' aren't writing the articles, and those who are writing them aren't actually living with this BS day in and day out.

You might want to call the Chicago Teachers' Union and ask if they have any data for you and/or can recommend any journals/articles. The CTU/AFT pretty universally HATE NCLB and might be able to point you int he right direction.

You know, The Nation had a cover story on NCLB sometime last year -- May, I think? maybe? It was an analysis by one education scholar with several other practical and academic experts responding; Deborah Meier was one of the respondents, but I can't remember who else was involved. The story itself is not of course a peer-reviewed journal article, but it might provide some additional jumping-off points for your search; I'd bet that at least a few of the writers involved have written on NCLB for a more academic audience.

I am quite sure that haggis was the reason my ancestors ran away in the middle of the night fromleft Scotland. Otherwise, it's a rather nice place!

Grad School.

It's not a job -- it's an indenture!
