#1 - Jacques Derrida can "kiss" my "ass".

#2 - Can anyone explain to me how the MSRP for House Season 4 can be $59.98 for total of 16 episodes, while the other seasons's original MSRPs were that or lower, and had 24 episodes on them? Plus there isn't even a gag reel this time?

WTF, Fox?

I used to index books, especially academic books, especially from Yale University Press. I often thought I should have a "Derrida surcharge" -- that is, for every time the author wrote "Derrida", the price of the whole indexing job should go up. As a kind of metric for "prose so dense yet stupid it will make your brain melt out your ears".

My only guess is that House is even more popular now, ratings wise, and they think they can get away with it?

Re #1:

Q: How many deconstructionists does it take to change a lightbulb?

A: Why are you privileging the lightbulb?

As for #2: Because they think that's what people will pay?

Hm, as for two, maybe they raised the price on the theory that things that are scarcer are more expensive, so since there are only 16 eps instead of 24, and thus episodes clearly in short supply, they get to charge more?

2: Because the gas prices went up.

When I priced the VVC DVDs this year, one of the reasons costs had gone up was because the general price of petroleum products has gone up.

But then how come other shows who put out the same (or fewer!) number of episodes from last season, plus extras, are charging far less?

If House were put out by Disney, you'd pay $20 per DVD and at the end, you'd still only have half the episodes.

When I was in law school, my contracts professor used to come up with these outrageous scenarios to illustrate points, and one of them went like this: "Say that someone shows up to mow your lawn, and you know they're out there, but you don't step outside and stop them. Why don't you step outside and stop them? It's because you're reading Derrida, and if you lift your eyes from the page, you HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN AT THE BEGINNING, because THAT IS HOW HARD IT IS TO READ DERRIDA." Having read Derrida, this hypo always cracked me up.

1) Costco had House S4 for about half that, I think. Bought it so I could *finally* catch up.

1b) Goddamn I love that show.

2) I am really glad no one ever made me read Derrida.

Yeah - S1-S4 are cheap. This is ridiculous.
