But it also applies to this quote from the Freudian week of my literary criticism class:

"She (i.e. the representation of all young women, upon developing a sense of inferiority to males upon discovering that they have penises and she doesn't) decides her lack of a penis is the punishment for some wrongdoing (probably masturbation); she gets furious with her mother for not giving her a penis, and for not having one herself; she feels contempt for the entire female sex, herself included, which is without such an important organ. Also, she feels the clitoris to be so inferior that she gives up masturbation entirely (emphasis mine).

Yeah, that's exactly what happens.

Seems to me, women often masturbate for the opposite reason--feeling decidedly *superior* to men in that regard. "That was... really great! Uh... I'll see you later... I have some... shopping to do."
