Prophecy. Hm.

Sooooo...first I thought (and I'm pretty sure everyone else thought, since they kinda told us it was true) that Roslin was our dying leader. Then I thought it might be Six (or all the Sixes), because of the speech Natalie gave before the Quorum about having to die in order to give life meaning, and the flashbacks with Starbuck standing there, and so on. For the earlier part of this season, I thought it might be Baltar. Now I have a whole other theory.
Pythia's prophecy says that the Lords of Kobol "anointed a leader to guide the caravan of the heavens to their new homeland." Also that this leader would have a "wasting disease," and would not make it to the homeland... herself? Himself? Doesn't say. Doesn't mention gender at all.
The Galactica has been leading the caravan of the heavens to its new homeland. The Galactica was going to be decommissioned on the day of the Cylon attack as an obsolete ship that was well beyond its sell-by date. The Galactica is quite literally breaking down--Chief just saw one of the ship's hull seams coming apart.
Call me crazy, but I think that the dying leader is an "itself". And that means the Galactica isn't going to make it to wherever it is that the Colonists and Cylons wind up. And I think I'll be just as sad to see her go as I would any other character.

Date: 2009-02-13 07:21 pm (UTC)(Srsly. My one and only BSG vid idea, back in S1, was about the ship herself as the real main character. And then they stopped being all about the ship and lo, I am LAZY. But no, I will not be calling you craxy any time soon.)

Date: 2009-02-14 12:37 am (UTC)That's a fantastic theory and you might very well be right. (The thought of them having to leave Galactica breaks my heart.

Date: 2009-02-14 07:26 am (UTC)i super love this idea, *especially* after tonight and adama's all forgotten about roslin and has returned to his one-true-love, galactica, and tells the chief to "save our girl".
SO COOL TO THINK ABOUT.
. . . except i think i'll cry a WHOLE LOT MORE if we have to see them all leaving the ship before she blows or something than if laura or someone died. that would be so tear-inducing, i can't even wrap my brain around it. (though lord, i bet they could film that beautifully . . .)
i almost wonder if adama would leave his ship though. i mean, isn't it like, customary that the captain/admiral/whatever stays with the ship? maybe he'll die along with galactica?
no idea. but i'm really sad now. not their poor beat-up baby battlestar!! and yet it fits so perfectly.
