It started out with the idea that I should just, for once, write a song that was kind of bouncy and happy. Though once I had decided to use the phrase “blue sunny day,” it was hard not to notice that the word “blue” can have another meaning. From there it’s only a quick jump to vampire suicide.

I &hearts JoCo a lot. And, the funny thing is -- because he lets us have his music for free, that makes me want to pay him. I happily paid him a buck for that song, because I didn't have to!

(And also, I love that he puts his music out there under creative commons, and that he's so happy when fans make things with/from his music -- stuffed animals, comic strips, vids, whatever. But that's the thinky meta part of my brain; most of me just adores his music because it is AWESOME. :-)

Have you seen this video on youtube from his... not last - second-last Chicago concert, where Emily got up on stage? Emily is aleprechaun on YouTube, and had gotten pretty popular with the JoCo crowd with her video of her dancing around her apartment to "Code Monkey". JoCo knew she was from Chicago, and got her to come up and do the YouTube dance while he performed, and lots of people in the audience *knew* the dance. It was awesome and fannish and fed on itself and was completely JoColicious.
