This is a weird post. I obviously wouldn't ever want to make fans of Life sad, so take it as read that I don't wish unhappiness on any of you. This is just my personal, selfish desire, for which there were no indications it would ever have come true anyway.

Screwy enough for you so far?

Remember, this is just my goofy-ass fantasy.

I had had hopes, putting aside the fact that it would have made the fans sad, that Life would have been canceled after last season. Because Damian Lewis would have been frakkin' awesome as the eleventh Doctor.

He can be a total dork (this is a clip from Shakespeare Retold, in which he plays Benedick, who co-hosts a morning tv news morning program with Beatrice. This is the parallel scene to her being sent to ask him to come in to dinner).

He can be terrifying (please excuse quality of clip - no idea wtf, but it's his voice).

He can sing (why this matters to me for Doctor Who? I don't know. Also again, please excuse the video, because... I have no idea what is going on or why. Maybe just close your eyes and listen).

He can switch out emotions on a dime. (More Much Ado--the post-wedding-fiasco scene with Beatrice.)

HAI.

O HAI FEETS.

DID I MENTION HAI?

Plus? GINGER. He always wanted to be ginger!

Instead, we have...well,

Seriously, don't scroll down if you don't want to see Eleven, or read my personal, negative opinion.

Last warning!

Matt Smith, a 26-year-old who, remember, MY opinion only, looks like Sean Penn and Amy Winehouse had a child, and then bounced his face off of a plate-glass window.

I completely and totally understand that the Doctor doesn't have to be a good-looking guy. I really do. I have never been attracted to Christopher Eccleston, but that had no bearing at all on how much I liked him as the Doctor. But... this guy? And... 26? I wanted them to cast older (yeah, yeah, it's all about me). Not that younger itself is in itself a bad thing, but, not so young as to be... well. That. And this kid might be a great actor, but I'll never know, because I won't be watching.

So, there you have it.

Oh you are SO RIGHT! I never thought of that, but Damian Lewis -- hot like a burning match. And also, yes, while I loved Chris Eccleston, Matt Smith is "putty-face" and waaaaaaay too young. IMO.

Oh well.

I'm sure Damian will be back in a good project very soon. He oozes charisma.

Fixed that for ya. :)

Oh, MAN, I would've given my eye teeth for Damian Lewis as the Doctor. *whimper* Instead, as you said, we got someone who looks like he's the Silly Putty version of some weird inbred alien with Jay Leno's chin. I sure as hell hope he has more charisma on film than he does in still pics, because... ewww.

Another ginger who would've made a great Doctor? Toby Stephens, who's Maggie Smith's son. Yum.

I am always down with Damian Lewis in pretty much everything. And yes, he's got range, and YES GINGER.

The line about Sean Penn and Amy Winehouse made me laugh my ass off. I'm choking here.

Oh shit, I haven't brought any of my Band of Brothers icons over.

First, apologies for my icon. It's the only one I've uploaded here so far. :D

I've seen Matt Smith in the Ruby in the Smoke/Shadow in the North movies, and he isn't quite so... odd-looking there. Also I kind of adore him, but that's mainly because he played one of my favorite characters ever in those movies, my massive One True Childhood Crush. And I kind of like the idea of the Doctor looking younger with each regeneration, in a weirdly perverse way. What someone else mentioned, what I'd love to see-- though sadly probably never will-- is 11 getting constantly smacked down for looking so young and acting like such a know-it-all. It would be hilarious. To me, anyway.

That said, Damian Lewis as the Doctor? Would be FULL OF WIN. Er, or would, except that his accent in The Baker, which I'm assuming is his real accent, kind of grated on me. He is maybe the one British actor ever whose fake American accent I prefer to his real one. BUT STILL, DAMIAN LEWIS, HOTNESS.

Which saddens me greatly, because DT's real accent makes me happy in my happy place.

In the case of DL, though, since his real accent is (as far as I can tell) generically British, I can't imagine they'd ask him to fake one, so... yeah. It's kind of a pointless objection, really, because on the off, off, off chance they ever did get Lewis for the Doctor, I would be SO GODDAMN PLEASED I'd just let the accent thing go. :D

Mmmmmmmmmm, Damian..... <3

I've never seen that clip of him singing Elvis before! I wish someone had the video just of his performance without all the crazy editing and whatnot.

Well, I've never seen Band of Brothers and I've only seen one episode of Life. So, I've only ever seen him in...one episode of Life. *g*
