As if the latest go-round of GatesGate wasn't reason enough:

I love these people.

Wow, you and I have such different takes on that.

It hit me as a really tacky way to increase their hits while making themselves look good: "See, we *care*." I think I would've been okay without the last paragraph, but that pushed me over the edge from wondering a bit about their motivations into an "ick" response.

Uh... well, that last paragraph is there to explain why the hell they have an obituary on their site at all, since *otherwise*, it might have looked like a cheap commercial stunt. But he was long affiliated with Apple and was a presenter/performer at many of their trade events, which people may not have known.

So... yeah, I guess we differ on our opinions.

I like that. And yeah, he was an Apple evangelist and early adopter for a lot of things -- I almost mentioned that on bitkahs, because a friend of mine had met him at an apple conference once, and talked about what a joyous person he was, and how into the whole computing thing. So rare in a celebrity, it seems. They definitely had more than a financial connection.

I thought it was very tasteful, especially the picture on the splash page. Yes, Mr. Hines was long associated with Apple and unlike many mega corps, Apple seems to actually CARE about people.

Plus we get to grin like crazy when everyone whines about their lastest PC virus. Heheheheheh.

Mr. Hines will be missed and I appreciate Apple's gesture. After all, they haven't been promoting it as a "look at us" thing. They just did it.
