I actually haven't looked at any of the paintings - I didn't follow the link when I first heard about this thing a couple of weeks ago (and in the two instances people on my flist have posted without a cut, I've shut my eyes and blocked the image), because AUGH MY EYES. So my speculation is completely theoretical, and I have no basis on which to agree or disagree with you w/r/t this particular collection - but I still think I'm right that people will fetishize anything.
