First, the happy! [livejournal.com profile] silveraspen has bestowed upon me a SNOWFLAKE of my very own! Now I can be unique just like all the other snowflakes. *mwah*

ETA: omg another snowflake! (This one's anonymous; perhaps it's gone undercover.) If this keeps up, I'll have a flurry soon! Good thing I have a robe and fuzzy slippers and eggnog (and rum) in the house.

Next, the grar! To everyone on my friendslist, all of whom I love DEARLY and would do ANYTHING for, please remember that there is no way in hell that all of your readers know what fandom you might be talking about at any given time. Please drop a hint in the post's subject line, or at least mention it in the post.

"Fanwriter X just posted story Y and it's awesome and YOU MUST GO READ IT!" And, the fandom is...?

"OMG I'm almost caught up - just one more episode!" Of... what?

"I can't rec this vid highly enough." Sounds great! WHAT THE HELL IS IT?!

*********

And finally, the nnnngh: Guys? We live in an age of unparalleled access to information. In fandom, especially, there is simply no way you can't find everything you need to know about actors, characters, episode titles, what-have-you, for your current fandom, with the most minimal of efforts--SUPER-ESPECIALLY if you belong to communities that are focused solely on that fandom that are high-traffic.

If one more person spells the name of White Collar's Neal Caffrey as either "Neil" or "Caffery," I swear to GOD I will write a perl script that punches people in the face over the internet. (To avoid being cyber-punched, here are some good places to look for info: your show's official website, the IMDB, any number of pro reviews and articles, and, in the case of White Collar, they put his name up in great big letters on a freeze frame in the pilot.)

*********

Hope everyone is having a delightful holiday season!

If you ever write this script, could you make it punch people who spell "Sentinel" with an A as well? I am at a loss why so many people can't spell a series they like that has a short title and not a difficult word either, and yet I keep seeing this for over a decade now.

That Perl script (customizable by peeve) could win you one zillion real dollars, you know.

YES OMG YES!

I will pay you whatever you want for that perl script. Chocolate by the barge. Truckloads of unmarked large bills. Pastries. Rum. Hot boys coming by your apartment to wait upon your every whim.

Yeah, about Neal/Neil....I actually had to correct someone who posted a shit-ton of "All I want for Christmas is NEIL" icons the other day. Bonus: Peter Burke's wife's name was spelled "Elisabeth" in other icons of similar ilk by the same person.

In both instances, I linked to the official pages for each character on USA's own site. Which the icon-maker also could have done just as efficiently. Gah.

I was looking for Band of Brothers communities today, and there was a community for Kirk Acevedo, from BoB, Oz, and lately of Fringe and a guest spot on White Collar. And I was a little boggled by the fact that the comm's icon says "Acedvedo Fans". WTF? What is wrong with people?

Don't meep! I don't mean anyone specific! It's just that I read a lot of people's ljs, and it happens all the time. Because we each get so excited about whatever it is that we're talking about, we forget, sometimes, that not everyone else knows!

Let it here be known that as a fandom monogamist, if I'm ever talking about anything fannish, it'll be Doctor Who. I only have an attention-span long enough for one fandom at a time.

:D I didn't mean anyone in particular! But I read about 240 personal ljs, and keeping track of who is into what, even the monogamous fans, is nigh-impossible. I do try to remember, I really do.
