Date: 2010-05-24 11:28 am (UTC)On the other hand? They went for something that felt emotionally satisfying even while the plot was an absolute mess. I feel way better about it now, for example, than I did about BSG the day after that finale happened.

Date: 2010-05-24 02:01 pm (UTC)Yes, hence the "rocks fall."
no matter when they all died they all came back to the now in the sideways world to when *Jack* died
hence the "everyone dies."
BSG's finale was a huge disappointment. That doesn't mean that Everyone Goes To Judeo-Christian Heaven is any less of a disappointment--just in a different way.

Date: 2010-05-24 11:50 pm (UTC)The thing about this ending is that I sort of feel that it is probably the best we could have hoped for. It's not a show that's ever given us straight answers, and it's always been a show that's been heavily invested in Christian and other kinds of religious imagery. I'm much happier with something that felt like emotional closure than an attempt to provide an explanation that failed *and* wasn't emotionally connected to the arc the characters had been on.
Apparently much of fandom is unhappy, but I haven't read up on many other responses yet...

Date: 2010-05-24 06:39 am (UTC)"Lost" is FINALLY over! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!
Although I am disappointed. I got so close to my wish for the island to blow up or sink into the ocean. So close, but alas, they spared it for unknown reasons (so they can make a movie).
So like....was the alternate world just a place for their dead souls to sort everything out? And if so, did Kate and uh...everyone else die after Jack? What did Dead!Jack do until they all arrived?
Not that I'll lose any sleep over this, because I don't care much about this. I'm just confused and I wondered if I missed something somewhere that explains what the hell is going on.
No?
Figures. >

Date: 2010-05-24 01:57 pm (UTC)Some people died way before Jack did, some died after. His father says that. They all go to Sideways World to hang out until all of them get there (looking, of course, as they did when they met one another), so that they could all *go to heaven together.*
To which I say - WHATEVS, BITCHES. ROCKS FALL; EVERYONE DIES.
Movie or no movie, the island has to survive because the island is, you know, where shit happens forever. Or something.

Date: 2010-05-24 01:54 pm (UTC)Rocks ACTUALLY fell. Trees and rocks and cliff-faces and the island all having earthquakes and falling apart..
Everyone ACTUALLY died. As in, all of their dead souls gathered together in a church and ascended to heaven.
ROCKS FALL EVERYONE DIES THE END

Date: 2010-05-24 08:31 pm (UTC)One of them was brilliant, heartrending, imaginative, strangely joyful, and all around one of the better pieces of television I've seen in quite some time.
The other one was Lost.
