Yes, my children, it's slash fiction set during the Holocaust. You know--THAT Holocaust. The Holocaust that helps two white boys to find true love.
From her warning:
"This piece of fiction is not 100% historically correct, nor did I ever intend it to be. Below is an image of Auchwitz (sic) gates, not because this is set there but because of the words upon those gates. I did not write this to be disrespectful to anyone--"
Ah, intent. How very, very much it does not matter.
"-- nor did I write this just as an excuse for slash."
Of course you didn't, dear.
"I put everything I had in to writing this and wracked my brain for weeks trying to get it perfect."
She worked so *HARD* that we should ignore how vile it is. Why does that sound familiar?
"If you do not wish to read a fiction surrounding this subject, even though there are warnings, then do not scroll down. Do not tell me I am sick and disrespectful. If you feel the need to post about how wrong and twisted and disrespectful I am, please join
fuckyou_mcr and stay out of this post. This post is for people to appreciate my writing and I will accept any constructive critisism on my writing (emphasis mine)."
Someone wanna screen-cap this romantic romp through the Shoah Show before she locks it down?
(thanks to
nestra for the heads-up)

Just because I don't agree doesn't mean I'm a troll
Date: 2010-07-09 04:00 pm (UTC)I UNDERSTAND that the subject matter is offensive. That's not the point. That isn't my question.
My question is about the why and how people decide that certain types of 'suffering' fics are ok (ie. rape!kink, underage!porn fic) but other kinds of fic are considered abhorrent and repulsive enough that the person who writes them is shouted down, insulted, harassed and verbally (I guess more like written) abused until they buckled and pull down their story.
Do you see what I'm saying? How do you decide what is right and what isn't? Why one subject and not the other? Is there a difference between censorship and/or flaming a 'bad' fic or author?
The reason I ask this is because a few months ago I asked a group if they have any age restrictions on underage fic. They said no, and then I got a lecture on how written child pornography is not a crime and is protected by the First Amendment.
Another person explained to me that I am free to read or not read fics. If the subject material is offensive to me, then just move along and read something else. That's what warnings are for.
I pondered this and came to a reluctant agreement that they were right, although I still think underage fic is wrong on so many level, but if that's what people want, that's their decision. I have been striving for a more open approach to fanfiction, but now I'm confused all over again.
Like...isn't ranting at her and telling her that she's wrong a form of censorship? How do you know who is more 'right' in this type of situation? She's got a right to create whatever she wants to, so where does your right to complain about it end?
I'm just trying to sort out everything and understand. I'm trying to set up a dialogue here so I can learn and formulate an opinion I can be comfortable with.

Date: 2010-07-09 04:43 pm (UTC)Why do you equate fantasy (rape kink, sex featuring fictional underage characters) with reality (the systematic butchery of millions of real people)?
Why do you continue to insist, despite all proof to the contrary, that this author is being prevented from writing and posting whatever she likes?
Why do you equate critique and protest with censorship?
Why do you maintain that the author's "rights" to create are unlimited, but the reader's "rights" to critique and peaceful protest are limited?
