Tasty, tasty intrigue.

Do you know that prop cost $10,000? I was like, dudes, couldn't you just get a box and paste some glass on it?

It's utterly hideous too. I mean it's truly an ugly piece of work. I'm sure it's period and all that, but it's the worst kind of baroque consumerist opulence.

It's supposedly Russian. Russian objets de vertu belong in the anti-Bauhaus category: More is More. (My favourite anecdote is the story of the young man showing off his malachite cigarette case at the Knickerbocker club in New York sometime in the 60s, until this very urbane old White Russian count walks by and sighs "I used to have a staircase made of that.")

LOL! Yeah, I know, Russian opulence, and especially in the era it comes from. The whole thing is very period and accurate, and clearly well made, but jesus god the gold leaf and cherubs. Give me Frank Lloyd Wright any day.

What?!?! Is that actual amber on it?

...and I was wondering if you'd ever come across a still/screencap close-up of the box itself?

I never came across one, so I made one myself a while back:

That's the best I can do - hope it's useful!

Isn't it just AWFUL?!

At least nobody decided to break it into a million pieces at the end of an episode. :D

Where did you hear that the prop costs 10,000? I agree, that's ridiculous for a prop.

Jeff Eastin said it cost $10k, either at Comic Con or in another video interview.

Okay, the really funny part is that I was so focused on the guys that I spent a few moments thinking "What's the spoiler? Are they dressed alike, is that the same suit, is that it? Ooh, I like the way Peter is below Neal's level, looking up at him," before I saw WHAT'S ON THE TABLE.

(Ten grand for a shoebox with some gewgaws stuck on it? jfc, people, this is why they're called props and not expensive things borrowed from the museum!)

and lastly -- HOLY SHIT.

I KNOW, RIGHT?! I did a double-take as well. I was browsing through the photo gallery for next Tuesday's episode, and was all "La la la ooh they're gonna have an intense conversation at Neal's dinner table that'll be cool I really HOLYSHITMOTHERFUCK IS THAT THE BOX?!"

also!

HEE, I wondered if you'd wonder.

To be honest, while I love the character interactions, the plots of WC have no been impressing me, and my spoiler-horror correlates directly with how intensely caught up in a show I am. So back when Buffy was airing and I had to watch it two days late in Canada, all it took was for someone to say that it had aired and I'd be all I WILL CUT YOU BITCH, but for White Collar, I had a moment of "but it's a spoiler," followed by "but I want to be part of tzikeh's conversation!"

LOL! That makes sense. It is an awfully big spoiler, but since you're not that terribly invested in the arc, I can see how "yay discussion yay!" would outweigh it.

*giggles*

For some reason, this is my favorite comment on the Internets this week. I swear it was like I could hear you saying it, and it just made me howl with laughter.

Maybe if we all run fast enough it'll be like 6 billion gerbils in a wheel, making the Earth rotate faster and then Tuesday will be here!

... no?
