It's utterly hideous too. I mean it's truly an ugly piece of work. I'm sure it's period and all that, but it's the worst kind of baroque consumerist opulence.

(My favourite anecdote is the story of the young man showing off his malachite cigarette case at the Knickerbocker club in New York sometime in the 60s, until this very urbane old White Russian count walks by and sighs "I used to have a staircase made of that.")

LOL! Yeah, I know, Russian opulence, and especially in the era it comes from. The whole thing is very period and accurate, and clearly well made, but jesus god the gold leaf and cherubs. Give me Frank Lloyd Wright any day.

Okay, the really funny part is that I was so focused on the guys that I spent a few moments thinking "What's the spoiler? Are they dressed alike, is that the same suit, is that it? Ooh, I like the way Peter is below Neal's level, looking up at him," before I saw WHAT'S ON THE TABLE.

(Ten grand for a shoebox with some gewgaws stuck on it? jfc, people, this is why they're called props and not expensive things borrowed from the museum!)

HEE, I wondered if you'd wonder.

To be honest, while I love the character interactions, the plots of WC have no been impressing me, and my spoiler-horror correlates directly with how intensely caught up in a show I am. So back when Buffy was airing and I had to watch it two days late in Canada, all it took was for someone to say that it had aired and I'd be all I WILL CUT YOU BITCH, but for White Collar, I had a moment of "but it's a spoiler," followed by "but I want to be part of tzikeh's conversation!"
