tzikeh: (shot serif - font joke)

I am using FontExplorer to manage my fonts. On my old computer (G5 tower), it imported all 800+ fonts with no problem, and managed them beautifully. On my new computer, it only imported about 350 of my 800 fonts. On both computers, the set up was exactly the same -- all of the fonts are in a folder on my desktop.

I've used the "Import Fonts" command, chosen the fonts folder--no luck. I've tried dragging fonts from the font folder into the Linotype window--no luck. It's not a duplication problem; I've skimmed over the 800 fonts and lots and lots of them are just not in FontExplorer, no matter what I do.

Both my old computer and my new computer are running OS X 10.5.8, and both are running the same version of FontExplorer (1.2.3).

The "import following font types" has every style checked.

I'm absolutely stumped. Any help out there?

My tech support consists of "beat it with a sledgehammer and then set it on fire". When you get to that point let me know. :-D

On a more serious note...try using winzip on all the files and e-mail the folder to yourself and unzip them into the correct folder. See if that helps. Probably not but it's worth a shot.

You noticed the part where I'm running on a Mac, right? ;)

Oh no...I think you can just select the item and choose "compress". E-mail it and see if "uncompressing" works. :-D

Surreal is correct... 'compress' from your contextual menu in finder is basically the same thing as Winzip. It even creates a zip file.

Ulp. Wish I could help, since I have had experience with dealing with mahusive numbers of fonts for work purposes, but unfortunately the software we use is Font Book, not Font Explorer. Otherwise, what your other commenter said about using Stuffit to compress the files for easier transfer across. I know it can be a bit temperamental about compressing files reliably, so perhaps you just got a dicky compression and might have to try again.

I think maybe I'm not being clear. Stuffit (or any kind of compression tool) has nothing to do with the problem. I have a folder full of fonts, and when I choose "import" it asks me to select the file I want to import fonts from. I choose the folder, and it doesn't import anything at all (though it asks if I want to overwrite fonts that are already in the program). It's not going to choose a .zip or .sit file.

I have font book, but I freaking hate it.

Erp. Shows how very little I know on the subject. Sorry!

I'd advise contacting FontExplorer support at this point...
