#1 - Please don't cross-post anything I write here to Facebook or twitter. I'm a huge believer that "hey, I made it public, that means anyone on the internet can read it," but there's a difference between "mi casa es su casa" and "INVITE EVERYONE IN THE WORLD TO MY HOUSE!", you know?

#2 - I don't have a Facebook account. I signed up once because I figured, well, yeah, a lot of people I know are on Facebook, and why not, and then a) I never used it, and b) I learned about just what Facebook thinks of its users, and what it does--and can do--with your personal information, and... fuck that noise.

#3 - I loaded the greasemonkey script that removes those idiot ticky-boxes for cross-posting to FB and twitter, and EVERY COMMENT I'VE GOTTEN ON MY LJ SINCE THEN HAS BEEN SCREENED FOR NO REASON, requiring me to reply to unscreen it. Does anyone know WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THAT? I don't think that I've ever screened comments in my seven years here.

#4 - I'm seriously thinking about going dreamwidth only at this point. And I mean only. That would take an enormous amount of work, and I don't have the time or energy right now, but it is no longer a hm-maybe-someday thought.

#5 - anyone want a dreamwidth invite? I've got LOTS.

ETA: AHAHAHAHAHA! Okay, so I implemented the greasemonkey script last night, and went to bed, and then only read about pingbacks this morning, and immediately went and opted out. It was only comments made between last night (when they apparently re-implemented pingbacks and made them opt-out instead of opt-in) and this morning that were screened, so it has to be some kind of weird feature involved in that.

BUT GET THIS

I followed one of the comments from the pingback bot, telling me my lj had been referenced, to the reference - *and it's from someone I don't know, and it's locked, so I can't read it.*

Oh, livejournal. Is there nothing you can't do badly?

Isn't pingback and My Guests actually useful? To check who's quoting your posts?

As I understand it, My Guests not only enables you to see who's dropped by, but it enables others to see where you've been, as well, which is a price I'm not willing to pay. I figure who comes in and looks at my LJ is their business and not mine anyway.

If pingback just lets me know there's a link to me out there, it might be useful. I have grave doubts that that's all it does, though - and again, if the cost of my knowing that is that I'm less in control of who knows what about me, then no thanks. :-/

Fair point. Have disabled everything.

All of these functions are arguably useful if you do not care about your privacy.

Pingback, as a for instance, will ping people with the titles of locked posts they are not allowed to view.

My Guests not only tells you who has been visiting your journal, but also leaves a trail all over LJ of other places you have visited.
