AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME!
I hear it's givin' thanks time!
The love of my friends. My friendship relations have changed over the years from "lots of friends, but only a tiny few who were close" to "a few friends, all of whom are astoundingly close." While I do miss some facets of my old social life, I'm finding this way incredibly rewarding, and supportive in ways I never had before.
My twenty-year-old cat, who still eats, drinks, and purrs, even though she moves very slowly, and needs pain medication.
School. Yes, I bitch and whine and moan, but I love going to class, and taking part in intellectual discussions, and teaching. Even though the market for teachers is a clusterfuck disaster, and even though teaching is less and less valued in this country (especially if it's not for science or math), I still want to do it, and will find a way, any way, somehow.
People who are willing to ask, willing to listen, and willing to forgive.
The Internet, and all of its facets.
Fandom, even when I freaking hate it.
You guys, whom I never hate.
New, awesome tv shows popping up all the time, in a way I could never have imagined when I first got into fandom (there were only three networks on tv--uphill snow both ways lawn).
The fact that, though I have significantly less money than I have ever had in my life, I can still pay rent and buy food.
Having just enough money left over each month to afford health insurance, even though my premiums are insanely high.
NOT having to spend Thanksgiving with my angry, hateful, irreparably fractured, abusive, ugly family, and the possibility that I won't have to go to see them over the Christmas holidays either.
Skinny Cow Mint Ice Cream Sandwiches.
TIVO TIVO TIVO.
Better living through chemistry.
Shakespeare.
Second chances.
My awesome, dark forest green Land's End's floor-length robe. (Nobody makes clothing for women in dark forest green, even though you can find tops for men in dark forest green everywhere you look. I may have to start a campaign.)
Bacon-wrapped dates in mild red-pepper cream sauce.
Books.
The few teachers who have become my mentors, whom I adore.
Good water pressure.
Naps.
One or two new acquaintances I've made this year who might join those with whom I have very close friendships, given time.
Buffalo Joe's mild wings, well done, with extra ranch, and a gut RC cola.
Did I mention my cat?
If you've made a thankful list, feel free to drop the URL in comments, if you care to.

Date: 2010-11-25 01:30 am (UTC)Currently I will be thankful for my kitty, who always tries to steal my ice cream, and is adorable.
And I will also be thankful for my puppy, who does not, and is adorable anyway.
:D

Date: 2010-11-25 04:26 pm (UTC)Friends are good, especially those from whom one can get honest feedback, and with whom one can share thoughts and feelings that one would hesitate to make public. (You've been one of those for me, so. Thank you.)
Good water pressure is awesome. I say that having lived on the top floor of a six-flat for 6 years, thus having been in a position of considering good water pressure a rare luxury. :)
Have a happy, peaceful, rejuvenating Thanksgiving.
