Elizabeth Taylor has died. She was 79.

It's weird; she's one of those people I assumed wouldn't ever die, if that makes sense.

Talented, beautiful, extraordinarily classy, and kind. A true force of nature, who spearheaded the movement to erase the stigma from AIDS.

Flores para los muertos, Elizabeth.

It's the end of an era. I was a little girl during her "heyday" and she will always be the epitome of Hollywood glamor to me. And then she turned out to be an admirable human being too...

RIP Miss Taylor, you will be much missed.

Very sad news. She was a fearless lady who left the world a better place, and you can't say that about many people.

I heard she had died while I was driving into church for a meeting, and when I got there I learned that she and Richard Burton had been married in Montreal by the then minister of the Unitarian church, and my (now) minister had spent the afternoon being interviewed by news shows asking if he was still alive and if anyone at the church now had known them. She showed us the church register with its full-page entry on the service, and the signatures of Taylor and Burton, plus their witnesses and the minister.

("Well," I said, "that's one way to make up our budget shortfall...")
