The future is an odd place to live
Mar. 28th, 2011 10:23 amA woman who works in an antenatal ward (I'm assuming in London) just tweeted that David Tennant and Georgia Moffat arrived about an hour ago. I'm sure we'll get updates as warranted, and we'll probably know that the baby has been born before some of their family members do.
How strange it must be, to be famous nowadays.

Date: 2011-03-28 09:39 pm (UTC)But your point is so true! I've been in two RPS fandoms, one during the early LJ years, so pre-social media like Twitter. The one I follow now has made me realize how very, very, very easy Twitter makes it to stalk celebrities, though I'm pretty sure none of the fans in AI RPS go beyond virtual stalking.
Seriously, though. We pretty much know when our guys are at Starbucks, at Wal-mart, at a club, at the airport, on a flight, at a fast food restaurant. We usually know even more specific details because someone tweets the exact location or the destination of the flight, etc.. It's totally different than it was in popslash circa 2002-2003.
I can only imagine how weird and frustrating it must be for the celebrities. I have to say, however, that I don't really hear about any increase in random people actually running out to physically stalk celebrities based on this kind of info. So I would think the weirdness/unpleasantness would come more from the constant sense of being monitored than anything else, maybe?
