Teaser trailer here.

Starring:

Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, John Hurt, Ciarán Hinds, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, and the dude in my icon. You know; the one with the funny name.

(He's billed last, but only because he's the least well-known; in fact, he's playing Peter Guillam. For those unfamiliar, he's George Smiley's (Gary Oldman's role) protegé and really the second lead.

And I see he's rocking the Sixties Hawking-esque barnet again.

It's not going to be nearly the same as the Alec Guinness et al. original, to be sure, but I'm glad it's in good hands.

Well, the Alec Guinness was also a miniseries, so no, it won't be the same. :D

Sixties Hawking-esque barnet

It's set in the mid-70s -- maybe Peter is behind the times? :D

Or maybe I am. But it does rather resemble the bowlcut he was sporting in "Hawking".

I like to imagine BC sitting in the makeup trailer, getting his hair straight-ironed every morning. :D

I will be all OVER this when it comes out. I was already going to see it for Oldman, Firth, Nighy, and Caine, but now that I have fallen ass over teakettle for Sherlock, I have to go see Benny rock Peter Guillam.

are you thinking of another movie? Neither Bill Nighy nor Michael Caine is in this film. ;)

So says IMDB, but I swear I saw both of them in the trailer.

(Maybe my brain is still screwy from time zone changes. It's entirely possible I'm seeing things.)

If only Tom Hardy were playing Karla. That would have been perfect. :)

Why - you don't want to hear him speak? ;)

*Real* actors don't need to speak. :)

OH FUCK YES.

And FINALLY Gary Oldman gets a good role in a (prospectively) good film again. I love him, but christ his role choosing can suck.

AHAHAHA. Yeah, sometimes he picks the most bizarre roles.

What I like about this (and Jim Gordon) is that he has NORMAL HAIR. He never fucking has normal hair in his movies.

So. Excited. And I love these novels. And I loved the BBC adaptation. So, I hope I love this too!

As someone who loves the old BBC adaptation, I am very nervous of this, but that trailer looks fantastic.

I wouldn't say I'm nervous - I mean, the BBC adaptation is still *right there*. If the movie is bad, that doesn't take away from how awesome the BBC adaptation is. Unless you mean "I'm really anxious for this to be good."

Yes, that latter one was what I meant.
