those of you with tumblrs - please help me with posting pictures

Somehow I have failed tumblr 101. Every time I try to post an image, it either posts it very tiny, so that you have to click on it to see it, or it doesn’t even post the image at all — just a grey box that you click on to see it. I have seen many, many people post images on Tumblr that show up as their normal size - I know the width limit is 500px, and I know the filesize is small too.

I’ve tried it by linking my to a URL at my own hosting site; I’ve tried it by uploading an image to tumblr; I’ve even gone into the page source for people who have posted images that show up normally and *copied out the source code and replaced the img src URL with my own* and created a post that way, and it STILL doesn’t work. Can someone help me out here?

It's been ages since I uploaded a photo to my tumblr (I've been basically namesquatting since 2007) and that was smallish but I recently poked around again and there is an option when you customize your tumblr that says "enable high-res photos", maybe that would help?

all my photos are low-res.

Huh. IIRC to post that photo I just clicked on the photo post button, uploaded the image to Tumblr from my hard drive, added the caption, posted, and it showed.

Have you tried using a different style for your Tumblr? maybe it's your layout that minimized photos?

I don't think so, because everyone I follow on Tumblr has normal-sized photos.

Huh. I've seen something like what you describe on my dashboard sometimes, but the small photos seemed to happen mostly when there were many in one post, i.e. the first was largish, then the next ones smaller and I had to click to enlarge, and only once did I have the placeholders appear in a post, but again the first picture was normal, iirc.

Do you have a link to a post of yours that went wrong? I mean, I just looked at your Tumblr and all the images appear normal to me.

I've had similar problems -- if you go to http://www.tumblr.com/tumblelog/ysobelflp and scroll down to the one with subject line "waaaant". The post itself seems to contain the picture okay, but when I view it in context of all the posts, it shows up as a placeholder.

Just fyi, this link you pasted works only for yourself, when I visit there I get a permission error. But when I went to your public tumblr url and scrolled down to the post with that subject line the picture looks normal to me, no placeholder.

...I never said I was a tumblr expert. *snerk* Thanks for the headsup. (I have problems figuring out how to link tumblry things. Sigh.)

And ... weird. I wonder why it shows up as a placeholder for me then. (It's the shark tea infuser, right?)

Yes, that's the picture. It looks fine (I have my preferences to showing full size photos though).

I found out that you can get Tumblr permalinks to posts in your dashboard by hovering over the creased upper right corner graphic effect.

I just took a peak and the images all looked good sized to me, didn't have to click on any of them to enbiggen, and no gray boxes.

Do you have the "show full size photos" box checked in your preferences?

Go there, and make sure the option under Dashboard to Show full size photos is checked.

I just followed you and your pictures are showing up correctly for me.
