the five steps of writing? HALP

I can't believe I can't remember this.

There are five levels of schoolchildren learning to write (and I don't mean pre-writing, drafting, etc.). I can remember fluency, and style, and I can't remember the other three, or what order they come in.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

There are five steps for reading English that I heard, i.e. phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension? I don't know about writing though.

Yeah, I know the reading ones, because they have a natural progression. The writing ones, I can't remember.

You're not talking about the five criteria ISAT writing (which is apparently going the way of the dodo due to budgeting) is evaluated on, are you?

I... might be? But it's levels at which they learn how to write. Like, the first thing you want is... fluency, I think? In that they're just getting words down on the page. Then... is it organization?

And I don't mean the 6+1 traits, which I hate.

I don't think we're talking about the same thing. And I'm not sure what you're talking about. I've not heard of 'fluency' as a measure of writing skill. Reading, yes, but not writing.

I was talking about FOSIC - Focus, Organization, Support, Integration and Conventions... the way ISAT writing is graded for all grade levels. (Obviously with different expectations for each grade.)

Oh, no no. And for writing, "fluency" means, at least as far as I can remember, "just getting fucking words down on the page."

I know I have a handout about this... somewhere... ahahahhahha finding it will be SO EASY AMIRITE?

Aha - part of the problem is I was looking for five, and there are only four. I found a handout on my backup disk (what did I do before Time Machine?)

1. Fluency (getting words on the page in [we hope] grammatically correct sentences)

2. Order (The ideas flow in a progression that makes sense)

3. Clarity (Diction, specificity, easy to understand from beginning to end)

4. Style (The writer has a unique voice)
