In a recent CNN/Time survey, Dean trails Bush by a mere 5 points -- 51% to 46%.

For some perspective on those numbers - in April of 1992, Clinton trailed Bush Sr. by 20 points.

Wasn't April of '92 in the middle of the whole Gennifer Flowers thing?

Dean's been at the library a couple of times -- gotta love those Iowa caucuses -- and he seems pretty popular around these parts. I know farmers and other rural types have a reputation for being conservative, but Iowa goes liberal more often than you might think; even most of our elected Republicans tend toward the moderate side of their spectrum. Gephardt has some strong support, but Dean might do pretty well on the 19th. I'd probably vote for him; I agree with almost all of his policies and when I got to meet him and shake his hand, he seemed a pleasant enough fellow.

Now if his campaign workers would just stop taping signs all over our walls every time they come, I'd support him whole-heartedly.

I never fail to find it amusing how people insist that Bush is unstoppable in 2004 when the Democrats (not just Dean) are all raising money hand over fist, with Dean smashing the fundraising records set by Clinton in 1996, when he was an incumbent president! Clark's putting together some nice cash, and Dean's at $30 million raised before a single vote has been cast, for pete's sake ... yeah, Bush is unstoppable, I believe you ...

That is, quite frankly, one of the most beautiful things I've heard lately.
