Practically Perfect in Every Way

I note that people use their ljs to bitch about their jobs a lot (myself included), and it would be an easy assumption to make that we all hate our jobs. So, for my own part, in clarification, I would like to say

I LOVE MY JOB.

I really do love my job, no matter how much I bitch about it here. I'm the webmaster for PBS Chicago and WFMT classical radio Chicago, and I enjoy the hell out of it. Things are stressful right now, sure, and Management doesn't get it, and I work with erstwhile Web Experts, and sometimes I put in way too many hours for too little result. But I love working with Photoshop and Illustrator and Flash and coding in html and learning more javascript and digging into php and trying to understand everything there is to understand about all of this. I love having a job in which I am required to adapt to new ways of thinking all the time. I love my workspace - we have a dart board, and a big weeble-like punching bag thingy, and various Nerf weapons, and inflatable furniture, and I have great computer equipment and can play the internet radio all day and wear jeans and sweatshirts and my hours are flexible and I can work from home when I want to.

Yay my job!

And go you for reminding me to count my blessings, too. I get caught up in the one-downsmanship game (the constant competition to see who's the most stressed and miserable, as if those were things to strive for) and it's really good to be reminded that there's merit in being happy, too.

God, yes, that's such an easy cycle to get trapped in. I have to force myself out of it all the time. Which is why I wanted to post this little burble.
