Dean for America

No, this isn't a joke. Just because he's a liberal, eggheaded, New England Governor whose campaign is called "Dean for America" and he's married to a medical doctor doesn't mean he can't also be real.

Dean for America is the website of Vermont Governor Howard Dean, who is in the running to be the Democratic nominee for the Presidential election of 2004.

He appears to be the only Dem running against Bush, and not alongside him. He is certainly the only one of the hopefuls who didn't close ranks behind the President and agree not to disagree with him on the war.

This is the man who, as his re-election day loomed, signed Civil Unions into law in Vermont while 60% of the population of the state was against it. He was still re-elected.

We all say things like "Yeah, but he'll never win." And he may not. But he surely won't if we don't do something to help.

Dean's the man.

I've been following Dean since he signed the civil unions law -- he's managed to tick off a few Vermonters by focusing much of his attention out-of-state in the last couple of years, but the plus side of that is that he's forged alliances with liberal dems and (even Greens) across the country, and has more experience with national issues. I was all for Kerry until he signed Bush's resolution, myself, but after that? Sayonara, Johnny.

Of course Dean won't win if he doesn't get a viable shot. So let's give him one. Enough people are angry at Bush that they could be willing to vote in entirely the opposite direction come voting time.
