What.Sweeney Todd Too Gory?
Studio wants Burton's macabre musical toned down.
Warner Bros. reportedly wants director Tim Burton to tone down some of the gore and violence in his big-screen version of the Broadway musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street....
I won't quote more from the article, since it's kinda spoilery if you don't know the show, but...
What.
Just... what.
What movie did you THINK you were making??
WHAT.
Are you fucking... WHAT?!
This is a HORROR movie. The singing doesn't make it somehow not a HORROR movie.
What.

Date: 2007-08-29 02:14 am (UTC)As for the rating, I've seen Sweeny many, many times on stage and except for the judge's song, it really is PG-13. Sounds like Burton upped the blood quota a bit.
Personally, I'm fine with that but I could understand why they're hoping for a wider audience. I wonder if it will appeal to the traditional horror audience ---I suspect not.

Date: 2007-08-29 02:46 am (UTC)That's the only explanation I can think of for how they wouldn't know what the entire story is about.
