Has anyone got a good screen-cap or official press photo of the reboot's Enterprise where you can clearly see the NCC - 1701 on the top of the disk? All the shots I can find are shot upward from underneath the disc, and the two times the movie passes over the top, we don't get to see the whole logo at once.
Help?

Date: 2009-05-20 11:28 pm (UTC)This is not a top-shot, so I have no idea whether it's useless or not.
Here's a top shot of the Kelvin, which is not the Enterprise, but considering that Starfleet is paramilitary I am fairly sure that all starship indicia would be done the same way.
And finally, thanks to trekmovie.com, we have an image completely based on conjecture. Look at the third picture from the top; again, this is CONJECTURE. It was done by German graphic artist Tobias Richter. It seems close, but as I have yet to see the movie I have nothing with which to make direct comparisons.

Date: 2009-05-21 01:18 pm (UTC)Once I get settled into work in a little while, I'll continue my quest to see if I can unearth the font. The Star Trek Movie Forum has a thread comparing this Enterprise to others, and the font has come up in discussion but has not been identified.
We all know that either it's a font available from somewhere for enough money, an available font that has been 'adjusted' (say, "I" for "1"), or something completely proprietary that a contract artist designed that is not available for love nor money. I'm hoping it's not Door Number Three.

Date: 2009-05-22 03:44 am (UTC)I did learn more than anyone (except detail-obsessed Asperger's folk such as myself) ever wanted to about Microgramma and its child Eurostile (and their designer, Aldo Novarese), which seem to be the basis for the Enterprise Reboot font.
But there are enough differences (the "1", the "R", the thin open outline surrounding the letters) that are not traceable to any officially licensed version from a recognized foundry that I suspect its a custom alteration.
