Has anyone got a good screen-cap or official press photo of the reboot's Enterprise where you can clearly see the NCC - 1701 on the top of the disk? All the shots I can find are shot upward from underneath the disc, and the two times the movie passes over the top, we don't get to see the whole logo at once.

Help?

Ooh. [personal profile] lapislaz's link discloses that the hobby models are made by Quantum Mechanix. Their page has a small closeup of the ship's name and registry; it links to a Quicktime slideshow of their model, which can be copied and dissected (assuming one has the necessary tools to do so). :) (The slideshow ends with a very nice view of the entire wording area.)

Once I get settled into work in a little while, I'll continue my quest to see if I can unearth the font. The Star Trek Movie Forum has a thread comparing this Enterprise to others, and the font has come up in discussion but has not been identified.

We all know that either it's a font available from somewhere for enough money, an available font that has been 'adjusted' (say, "I" for "1"), or something completely proprietary that a contract artist designed that is not available for love nor money. I'm hoping it's not Door Number Three.

Well, I'm trying something else entirely just to see whether it'll work. I've emailed both Quantum Mechanix and CBS Properties to ask them about the font. If CBS Properties licensed it to Quantum Mechanix, then the font must be identifiable.

I love research. I love quests.

I have a secret source for (and stash of) Lembas. I'm all set!

Hoping to hear from CBS or QMx soon. Barring that, I regretfully concede FAIL.

I did learn more than anyone (except detail-obsessed Asperger's folk such as myself) ever wanted to about Microgramma and its child Eurostile (and their designer, Aldo Novarese), which seem to be the basis for the Enterprise Reboot font.

But there are enough differences (the "1", the "R", the thin open outline surrounding the letters) that are not traceable to any officially licensed version from a recognized foundry that I suspect its a custom alteration.
