Uh. So. The clinic doesn't know where the tech who saw Artemis is - he walked out this morning and never came back. He'd just started the job a few weeks ago. Apparently, he was telling some patients that their pets were dying and then giving them medication and scheduling treatments. They discovered this yesterday when he was off and waited til he came in this morning to talk to him - I don't really have the whole story - they're not really telling it, I guess. And now I have to take her BACK because we have no way of knowing if any of the test results are for real. And I can't really take this. Um. So, I'm going to try to process all of the different emotions I'm dealing with right now and I'll be getting back to reality later. Yeah. That sounds like a plan.

And people are suggesting I sue -- I don't know. For 11 years I've taken Artie to this clinic, and they've always been really good except for this - and it was a new guy and they caught on quickly, so... I don't know. I'm waiting and seeing.

So... anyone know a good vet in Chicago?

Sounds to me like the guy was a pure, Grade-A, USDA Certified shithead. And not the clinic's fault.

That sucks so incredibly much.

Gah! Jessica, I am so sorry. How frustrating and infuriating all at the same time.

Holy crap! What a bizarre fucking bit of insanity. They're probably not giving all the facts because they are going to face lawsuits from people--and going to try to persue criminal charges against him, when they find him. I'm assuming giving medicine that's not necessary is cruelty to animals, but I'm not sure what the legal, prosecutable equivalent of emotional distress would be. There should be an emotional assault on this!

Much, much hugs. Pet the Artie. Hopefully this means that absolutely nothing serious is wrong, but what a horrible roller coaster to be put on.

Good gracious.

Your lunatic wins the week's award

I hope Artie's okay after all.

I'm...speechless. If that shithead was lying to you, I will be so happy for you -- and so angry at him. I'm angry at him regardless.

Speechless. Yeah. Speechless.

I am unbelievably angry on your behalf (and Artemis). I just can't even fathom why someone would do such a thing. *hugs* and my thoughts are with you and Artie.

o_O WTF??

All the vets I know are in the 'burbs, but if you're willing to drive to Bensenville, there's a kickass one right along Irving Park. But again, it doesn't sound like the vet's office is the problem if they caught the whacko this fast.

What a WEIRD-ASS.

I'd say, don't sue. You've been hurt and traumatized by this guy, no doubt, but I wouldn't sue the clinic. There are certain kinds of extraordinary weirdness that, I would guess, are hard to screen for, and this seems to be one. I WOULD demand that they give you answers eventually, but I think it's fair to hang on and give them a chance to get those answers first.

Take Arty back for that second opinion and see what's up. Ten to one she's fine. Amid all my weirded-out-ness, I am relieved that she's probably AOK.

We took all our pets to Uptown Animal Hospital on Clark street (I think it's the 5400 block, or thereabouts--just south of Tybony paint store) and they were fantastic. We even used to board there, when we went on vacation.

Jesus fucking christ on a crutch! Or, oh, sorry, um, good grief!

I can't even imagine... I mean, my brain does not go there.

The thing I would say is definitely this should be a free visit. I wouldn't even think about suits and such -- I mean, clearly they could have done a better job hiring people, but what's the point? But they should at the least make it a free visit; they owe you that much for an incompetent hire and not following up on him his first days there.

Didn't the actual vet call and say that the tests came out normal? In that case, it sounds like the lab work was all right, but what's probably going on is something that's not systemic affecting Artie, and they can deal with that in an office visit by someone who's not a fucking lunatic. If it's something like an eye problem or ear/nose problem, they don't have to do much more testing for that.

Geez, hon, this is just all so horrible.

Huh? He was doing what??

This is just too strange - almost like a television show or something. He was telling people that their pets were dying??? That is horrible, and horribly just weird. And now, how are you supposed to trust anyone at that clinic again? And what about the cat? No one told her she was really sick, right? And you - dude - this is beyond yo-yo emotions, this is pretty much rollercoaster stuff.

wishes back rubs for you and tummy rubs for Artemis

Will contact the network of crazy cat ladies and see who in Chicago is recommended. I'm sure someone knows someone.

And big sympathies regarding psycho vet tech. That's just friggin nuts.

Is Artemis doing well now? Any other signs of illness? If you want me to swing any symptoms in front of CCL group and see who swats at it, will do. Just let me know.

Jesus Christ on a popsicle stick.

I would certainly hope future visits and tests are completely free of charge, but I wouldn't sue. However, if you want to change, I've heard nothing but good about City Cat Doctor (near north, on Wells). I know at least half a dozen people who take their cats there and rave about them. They just care for cats and are, apparently, fabulous.

Most of all, I hope Artie is actually healthy and fine, and it was just the nutjob speaking nutjob-ese.

Oh my god, that is so bizarre and awful! You must just be beyond freaked. I assume that the clinic is going to bend over backwards to make right with you (bare minimum: no charge for this new visit and testing, refunding earlier charges if the testing the crackpot ordered was unnecessary, etc.). They'd better be appropriately apologetic (and tangibly so) for the emotional trauma that they've put you through. After eleven good years, I'd probably be willing to write it off as a nutjob employee and allow the clinic to mend fences, but they're their fences to mend as they are responsible for their employee's actions. Poor Tzikeh and Artie. ::pets you both::

That just defines evil.

Evil people were out in force last week. My aunt and uncle got their life savings stolen by some workmen who painted their house.

PSA - If you know any crazy old people who do not have their own children to look after them, check to make sure they are not doing anything really stupid like keeping everything they own in an unsecured safe in the bedroom.

The one good thing that evil people do is to remind us how much we should treasure the non-evil people (and creatures) who are dear to us.

Give Arty a great big hug and tell him he is a good kitty.

BTW - Was the evil guy kind of short and going by the name "Loveless"?

I think that's the weirdest thing I've heard in a while. It's definitely among the cruelest. I'm glad the guy is history, but is there any way they can make sure he doesn't do this in another clinic?
