Eighteen minutes into White Collar. I had a sense I'd like it, but I had no idea, did I.
None.
Like a Mack fucking truck.
And they're both wonderful in their roles, and yes, Matthew Bomer (Neal) is very, very pretty, but you know me (or, if you don't know me well, you'll know me now), I am ALL about Tim DeKay (Peter). (omg Jonesy! \o/)
In the cast interviews, everyone talks about "the relationship." ♥
This is possibly the best pilot episode I've seen for a show since... hm. Invisible Man? Is that possible? I'll have to look at all the shows that premiered between 2001 and now. But it's reminding me of that pilot in quality, in tenor, and in acting.
And who knew I'd like Tiffani-Amber Thiessen (now billed as Tiffani Thiessen)! Good on ya, woman.
If you missed it, USA is running it again Sunday at 11am Eastern, and again on Monday at 11pm Eastern.
Plus? It's on Hulu.
ETA: I just realized that Neal is House-esque, and Peter is very Wilsony. (Also DeKay has similar features & bone structure to RSL. They don't *look alike*, mind you, but there are similarities all over the place.)
Do I have types or what? Mmmmmm.
EATA: I don't think this is a spoiler -- Neal even has a large ball he throws in the air and catches while he's thinking. HOUSE.
*goes to finish the episode*
*needs an icon for falling in love with a new show*
*bring on the slash, please.*
*Tim! I love you! Come visit!*

Re: YANA!
Date: 2009-10-25 12:59 am (UTC)Also, YAY Tim DeKay. You know, I like him, but I never seemed to remember his name, so everytime he appeared in a series I was watching I wouldn't be expecting him and it would be like a really, really nice surprise. Now I can't do that anymore.
*sigh* I guess now I have to see this, don't I?

Date: 2009-10-25 01:37 am (UTC)I just spent two hours capping the pilot and looking at Matthew Bomer's pretty, pretty face. (http://nicolasechs.livejournal.com/34688.html#cutid1)
Next step is icons, obviously.

Date: 2009-10-25 02:28 am (UTC)I know! I'm not sure I'll ship it, or look for fic (though I'm sure I'll read if someone points it out), but I'm already planning to buy the DVDs when they come out. Talk about chemistry! (Any way you want to view it.)

Date: 2009-10-25 03:23 am (UTC)Thank you. But I can't find anything titled "Cast Interviews", or anything similar. Where should I be looking? *grumbles* I thought sure it would be plainly listed.

My apologies for wasting your time, and thanks for your patience.

Date: 2009-10-25 07:56 am (UTC)The chemistry between those two guys is fantastic. The banter, the innuendo, the scene in the car, Neal on the couch with Elizabeth. Oh, I spent so much of that hour squealing with joy. And they kept doing close-ups of Matthew Bomer's eyes. He's almost too pretty for my taste, but god those eyes.
Also, it looks like Natalie Morales will be joining the cast, one more thing that makes me happy.

Date: 2009-10-25 10:25 pm (UTC)Just when I think I have resigned myself to the Scourge Of Pilot-itis--you know, watching a new show and suffering through serious CLONKETY-CLONKETY "AS YOU KNOW, BOB" dialogue and plot mechanics, I often just go, well, hey, it's the job of a pilot, so of course they kind of have to be like that in order to get the milieu/characters/premise across and rolling.
But then I see something like this, handled with, you know, SKILL. And I remember that no, severe pilot-itis with the clonkety clonkety, while overlookable, is NOT MANDATORY.
...Is it next week yet???

Date: 2009-10-25 10:59 pm (UTC)There's a line somewhere from a thing somewhere (I can't tell you all the sites I've visited in the last 24 hours) that says "Peter's conflict isn't how much he hates Neal, it's how much he likes him." And I'm like YES. YES IT IS. Neal isn't stupid; Peter isn't stupid; they have a mutual admiration society going on. And nothing the characters do or say is ridiculously "too clever," but just perfect for what feel like wholly formed characters right out of the gate. "How many of you went to Harvard?!... Don't... raise your hands. Just, don't." Neal instantly able to do the big math! "You look like a cartoon."
And I love that Elizabeth meets Neal and genuinely wanted to meet Neal, and Neal is showing Elizabeth the counterfeiter's initials on the Spanish bond! She calls him her "rival," but not in a bad way. Looks like those two are going to get along Just. Fine.
And Neal and Peter chatting in the car about Peter's anniversary plans and BRAINSTORMING?! And Peter getting Neal's help to use his new connections to treat Elizabeth for their anniversary? OMG I LOVE THIS SHOW.
And hi characters of color who have non-clichéd roles (Hi, Dihann Carroll)! Hi lesbians who function under "We Don't Ask, We Don't Care."
"Did you just lie to a priest?" "Do you think Diana's attractive?" "Sure." "Then we're good."
Peter. Wears. Braces. BRACES.
(I am keeping my eyes on sources for the next episode. Ahem.)
