Date: 2009-12-05 11:01 am (UTC)Oh man, I just went and read all the random ep reviews I could find, and I am SO CONFUSED by some of the reactions I've seen. I saw MULTIPLE people posting "Aw, I don't want Peter to be corrupt, I'm so disappointed he's a bad guy now and Fowler clearly is right that he's a dirty cop."
I'm like, seriously... do you really think this is the show *USA* is putting on the air? That they would seriously reveal in 1x08 that Peter is dirty and that this whole thing with Neal is a long con that began before the show even started, that he kidnapped Kate for some kind of selfish personal financial gain. *Really*.
I mean, forget everything we know about Peter as a character on a Watsonian level-- on a *Doylist* level, where do you even go from there? What kind of show do you have if 1x08 reveals that Peter is really just after the lost XYZ that Neal stole back in '02 and that's what this whole thing was about? Neal would amass evidence, turn Peter in, and run. END OF SHOW.
Like, I understand if people are *personally* disappointed in Peter for playing Neal, but I just don't believe for a *second* that he's dirty and I wonder how people are even reading it like that at all. ^_^

I was really taken by the tone in Peter's voice when he told Fowler he had been working so hard to keep "the kid" on the straight path. I ... think he meant it.
